Everyone loves a parade and organizers have been busy putting the details together for the 2014 Staten Island St. Patrick’s Parade, to take place Sunday, March 2.
This year will be the 50th anniversary of the parade, and committee members are inviting all former grand marshals to ride down Forest Avenue behind this year’s grand marshal, Gerald Mulvaney. The committee will provide transportation for the grand marshals.
Step off will be at 12:30 p.m., from the corner of Forest Avenue and Hart Boulevard in West Brighton.
The first Island parade took place in March of 1964 and former Congressman John (Jack) Murphy was the first grand marshal.
As always, the parade festivities will get a head-start with the annual Hibernian Ball, sponsored by the Richmond County Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH), to take place Feb. 15 in the Staaten, West Brighton.
At that time, Mulvaney will be officially sashed as grand marshal, and Emily Elizabeth Randall will be formally crowned as Miss Hibernia 2014.
