New York Cares Coat Drive

NY CARESThis winter, thousands of New Yorkers will have to make difficult a difficult choice between buying a warm coat and taking care of some other basic need; putting food on their table, paying their rent on time, or keeping the lights on. In addition to the working poor, thousands of homeless New Yorkers will also need a coat to help them negotiate the harsh realities of winter—without a place to store their coat during the summer, 90% of our homeless population will rely on a donated coat this winter to keep from freezing.

Start collecting coats now for the 2013 Coat Drive. We want to start distributing coats as soon as it gets cold, and early donations to allow us to do so. Register now and we will send you a packet of promotional materials!

You can donate a coat at one of hundreds of public collections sites, starting November 12th, 2013. Please check back often for a comprehensive list of places you can drop off your coat. Organizations interested in hosting a public collection site for the New York Cares Coat Drive should call 212-228-5000.

New York Cares works together with a variety of partners and events to spread the word about the Coat Drive, including the NY/NJ Super Bowl Host Committee, the New York Mets, and Winter’s Eve at Lincoln Square.

WHERE DO THE COATS GO?

New York Cares works hand-in-hand with nonprofit social service agencies, churches, schools, and shelters in New York City to make sure coats are distributed as quickly as they are collected. Our partners serve some of our city’s most in-need populations.
